Personal and group trainer Rünno Link will lead a free seminar at the European Combat Sports Festival, taking place at Unibet Arena from October 20–24, which will focus on general physical conditioning and injury prevention for combat sports athletes.
During the seminar, Link will discuss how to integrate training, workload planning, recovery, and nutrition into a holistic approach that supports an athlete’s development and helps the body withstand intense workouts. Combat sports athletes, coaches, and other sports enthusiasts are welcome to attend.
A Strong Physical Foundation Supports Technical Development
Combat sports demand strength, speed, endurance, mobility, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing demands. If an athlete’s general physical conditioning does not meet the demands of the sport, an increasing training volume may begin to limit development rather than support it.
If an athlete’s general physical conditioning does not meet the demands of the sport, an increasing training volume may actually limit development rather than support it.
In this seminar, Link discusses how to prepare the body for intense training and develop physical abilities in a well-thought-out manner. He also focuses on the balance between general physical conditioning and sport-specific training, which helps athletes train consistently and apply their technical skills.

Injury prevention starts with managing training loads
Injuries usually develop over time when the training load increases too quickly, there isn’t enough time for recovery, or the training sessions don’t match the athlete’s physical readiness. The seminar will address the most common mistakes that can lead to overtraining and increase the risk of injury. Participants will learn how to plan training loads more consciously, what bodily signals to watch for, and how to find a balance between the effort needed for progress and recovery.
